What is National Cat Day? | ![]() |
Founded in 2005, National Cat Day was created to bring attention to the number of cats that are need of adoption. It also serves as a day for cat lovers and cat owners to celebrate their cats and acknowledge the positive affect they have on our lives each and every day. It's a very sad fact that roughly 4-million cats are rescued or enter shelters every year with roughly half of them having to be euthanized. Cats are amazing animals that provide unconditional love and it is a shame that they often times get overlooked because they can't perform the same jobs as bigger and stronger dogs.
Even if you can't own a cat yourself for whatever reason, you can still make an impact by volunteering at local pet shelters or per rescues. It is proven that spending time with a cat can lower blood pressure and increase happiness levels - so playing with a cat is a win-win situation for all parties involved. If you are also a lover of dogs, there is also a National Dog Day.
National Cat Day is celebrated on October 29th of every year. More information can be found on the official National Cat Day website.
