What is National Lemonade Day ? | ![]() |
National Lemonade Day is celebrated in the summertime each year in the United States. Throughout the country, kids are encouraged to set up lemonade stands and sell this tasty citrus beverage to passersby. In 2007, Michael Holthouse, founder of Prepared 4 Life in Houston, TX, formalized this day as an opportunity to teach children about entrepreneurship and small business ownership. Kids (along with help from a teacher or parent) go through a strategic 14 step process to plan and implement their lemonade stand. They are also taught about the importance of how to manage profits—by spending, saving, and giving back to the community. As of 2014, more than 200,000 children participate in Lemonade Day across the country. The goal of Prepared 4 Life is to expand the program to 1 million kids in the U.S.
Join with schools, churches, and other community organizations to help kids start a stand. Or, just be part of the process by purchasing a refreshing glass from the next lemonade stand you pass. For a unique experience, make your own lemon beverage at home with additions like honey or lavender for extra flavor. Don’t forget the berries! Cherry, raspberry, strawberry, and blackberry all make lemonade pink and pretty—while still delivering the lip-puckering taste you love.
