What is Teacher Appreciation Day?

Teachers' Apprecation Day, sometimes referred to as Teachers' Day, is a special day that was created to honor and show appreciation for teachers of all levels. The holiday is celebrated on different days around the globe. In the United States, the unofficial holiday is celebrated on the Tuesday of Teacher Appreciation Week, which is always during the first full week of May. 

Since the day occurs towards the end of a typical school year, many students use this time as an opportunity to say thank you to their teacher for all of their hard work during the year. As part of Techers Appreciation Day, it is common for students and their families to give gifts and cards to their teachers. The National Education Association, NES for short, defines the special day as "a day for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives."
