|What is Candy Corn Day?|
National Candy Corn Day falls the day before Halloween each year. It's a perfect date to celebrate one of the favorite treats of the season. This sweet, mild-flavored confection was invented by George Renninger (of Wunderle Candy Company) near the end of the 19th century using water, corn syrup, sugar, marshmallows, fondant, and edible wax. The tri-colored kernels, which were designed to resemble real corn, have been a part of the candy corn look since the beginning. Other veggie candies, such as turnips, have been created using identical ingredients. But they haven't captured the public's imagination in the same way. Candy corn remains extremely popular as a treat that celebrates harvest time. In fact, 35 million pounds of the stuff are produced for the fall season-much more than at any other time of year.
