What is Honesty Day? | ![]() |
If April 1st is a day to tell lies and pull pranks, April 30th (Honesty Day) is a time to come clean. The former press secretary of Maryland, M. Hirsh Goldberg, is credited with inventing this holiday in the 1990s. He wrote a book about lying, fibbing, scamming, and frauds. After researching the book and the harm done by such famous liars as Richard Nixon and Bernie Madoff, he decided that it was time to celebrate and reward the truth for a change. Goldberg became known for giving out awards for acts of brave honesty on the part of companies, organizations, and individuals.
Most people admit to telling "half-truths" occasionally, while 12% of people admit to telling downright lies. People lie to colleagues, partners, and especially to doctors. Having a day of truth-telling is refreshing change from business as usual. Take advantage of this occasion to play a game of Truth or Dare. If you really do dare, reveal a secret you've never told anyone before!
