What is National Chocolate Day? | ![]() |
Chocolate Day is one of the most disputed food holidays in existence. Unlike Pizza Day and Ice Cream Day which have a well-accepted date for celebration, Chocolate Day is spoiled for choice. In the United States, the date falls in October. But international and informal U.S. chocolate celebrations are also set in other months of the year. Bittersweet chocolate even has its own designated day in January. The National Confectioners Association is believed to be behind the inception of at least one of these chocolate-flavored holidays.
Each Chocolate Day is marked by massive chocolate consumption (made easier by the availability of free samples from manufacturers and distributors) and the sharing of chocolate-based recipes. Consumers also get educated about the history of chocolate, the involved production process from cocoa plant to store shelf, and the health benefits of dark chocolate.
