What is Cookie Day? | ![]() |
National Cookie Day comes around every December, just in time to ramp up for the holiday baking season. Whether fresh from the oven or lovingly arranged in a cookie bouquet or gift basket, these tempting treats are a great desert to celebrate. Unlike Cake Day and Cheesecake Day, which are unapologetically decadent, there's something wholesome about Cookie Day. After all, oatmeal and raisins are healthy foods. Mix them together with some sugar and butter, and you can still claim that you're basically eating granola!
Of course, part of the delight of Cookie Day is deciding among the hundreds of varieties. Pipe flavorful icing costumes on some gingerbread men, sprinkle decorations onto simple sugar cookies, or mix your favorite chocolate candy into some delicious cookie dough. If all your friends do the same, you can arrange quite a cookie swap. Fun fact: Most people like their cookies big and plain. Only 17% of cookies sold in the U.S. are iced. Only 5% are mini-cookies.
