|What is Mental Health Day?|
Mental Health Day is an international day dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues and providing support to those affected. It is organized, in part, by the World Health Organization and the Mental Health Foundation. About 12% of the world’s population suffers from mental disorders. An estimated 25% of the population may face mental health challenges (such as depression) in their lifetime.
The goal of this day is to create an atmosphere of openness about the topic of mental illness, decrease the stigma associated with mental disorders, ensure better access to mental health services, and find better ways to prevent and treat mental illness. Proclamations, lectures, and awards mark this occasion each year. One way to celebrate World Mental Health Day is by having a “Tea & Talk”. This is an opportunity to invite family, friends, and coworkers to brew a pot of tea, make a donation to a mental health organization, and talk about mental health.
