What is Winter X Games? | ![]() |
The Winter X Games is a major winter sports compeition oragnized by ESPN every year. Founded in 1997 and not nationally televised until 2002, athletes complete in various winter extreme sports for the opportunity to win gold, silver or bronze. The competition is aired on the ESPON Network, which also includes ABC and ABC Sports.
The Winter X Games are held every year in January or February with the Summer X Games being held in August. The main competitions are held in the United States but there are international competitions. Since 2002, the winter version has been held at the Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado and ESPN states that it will continue to be held there through at least 2019.
