The London Marathon is a major annual marathon held in London, United Kingdom. Founded in 1981 by Chris Brasher and John Disley, the London Marathon became the largest marathon when 36,748 entrants finished the race in 2012. Since 2010, the London Marathon had been sponsored by Virgin Money, a bank and financial services firm that is owned by the Virgin Group of the UK, and is officially named the Virgin Money London Marathon.
