What is Oktoberfest?

Oktoberfest, spelt Octoberfest within the United States, is an annual beer festival held in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. The 16-day event runs from the end of September into the first weekend of October. Founded in 1810, Oktoberfest has become an integral part of Bavarian culture. With 6+ million people attending Oktoberfest every year, it is the world's largest fair. 

Over 7 million liters of beer are consumed during Oktoberfest, which also offers traditional Bavarian food such as Hendl (chicken), Schweinebraten (roast pork), Schweinshaxe (grilled ham hock), Wurstl (sausage), Knodel (potato/bread dumpling), and Kasespatzle (cheese noodles).
