What is Frankfurt Book Fair?

The Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany is the largest event worldwide for the book publishing industry. The trade show traces its roots back 500 years, to the time of Johannes Gutenberg (the inventor of movable type) when local booksellers held the first book fair in Mainz near Frankfurt. Today, this trade fair welcomes over 286,000 visitors each year, with thousands of exhibitors and vendors attending from more than 100 countries.

The autumn event at the Frankfurt Trade Fair runs for 5 days and attracts publishing and multi-media firms from around the globe to broker deals for publishing rights and licensing fees. It's also a favored venue for launching new books. The fair is exclusively for industry professionals the first three days, and then the doors are open to the public for the remainder of the event.
