Founded in 1985 by a Brazilian entrepreneur named Roberto Medina, Rock In Rio Music Festival is a series of music festivals that are held Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Lison, Protugal; and Madrid, Spain. Since 1985, Rock in Rio has become the world's biggest music festival with total annual attendance exceeding 1.5 million people. The name "Rock in Rio" comes from it's original name and location, "Rock in Rio de Janeiro." The festival showcases, rock, pop, indie, hip-hop, pop, and heavy metal music.
2013's Rock in Rio lineup includes Beyonce, Muse, 30 Seconds to Mars, Florence + the Machine, The Offspring, Justin TImberlake, Alicia Keys, Metallica, Rob ZOmbie, Alice in Chains, Bon Jovi, Matchbox Twenty, John Mayer, David Guetta, Iron Maiden, and Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band.
Some of the biggest names to perform at Rock in Rio include Queen, Rod Steward, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Go Go's, The B52's, Whitesnake, Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol, Prince, Run-DMC, Guns N' Roses, Carlos Santana, Foo Fighters, Sting, Oasis, Neil Young, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Elton John, Metallica, Stevia Wonder, Coldplay, Muse, 30 Seconds to Mars, Florence + the Machine, Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen, and Bon Jovi.
Rock in Rio will be expandied to Buenos Aires, Argentina beginning in 2014.
