What is Record Store Day? | ![]() |
Founded in 2007, Record Store Day is an international holiday that is celebrated on the 3rd Saturday of April every year. The reason for the special holiday is to celebrate the culture and history of the independently owned and operated record stores around the globe. Celebrations vary from location to location but common events include live concerts, artist autograph sessions, artist meet and greets, art shows, special edition music releases, and much more. Currently, the Department of Record Stores manages Record Store Day in partnership with the Coalition of Independent Music Stores and the Alliance of Independent Media Stores. Besides coordinating this day, this management group also helps promote and market independent record stores to help try and ensure their survival for many years to come.
