Ramadan 2011 Information

Ramadan corresponds with the Islam calendar which is based on the moon, as opposed to the Gregorian calendar which is based on the sun. The result is that Ramadan is observed on different dates each year. Ramadan 2011 dates will vary from Ramadan dates in the previous year by about 11 days. Ramadan corresponds with the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.

Ramadan is a time for Muslims to focus on God and to focus on themselves, removing other temptations.  It is a time for Muslims to practice patience, humility and spirituality. Many Muslims fast during the Ramadan's daylight hours, and prayer is common during the month of Ramadan. It is believed that the first verses of the Koran, or Qu'ran, were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad during Ramadan.
