|What is Pizza Month?|
Pizza Day and Cheese Pizza Day just don’t do justice to one of America’s favorite foods. So, pizza also claims the entire month of October for a non-stop celebration. The month was dedicated to honoring this classic Italian American “pie” by a pizzeria owner in Indiana during the 1980s. Gerry Durnell founded Pizza Today magazine and named October Pizza Month in honor of the inaugural edition of the publication.
Pizza might not really need the extra attention (since 350 slices are downed every second of the day in the U.S.) But there is a reason for the buzz in October. Pizzerias across the land offer special deals—and even completely unique pizza creations—throughout the month. If you want to consume for a cause, you’ll likely be able to find a local pizza place that assists with fundraising by donating a slice of pizza proceeds to a local or national non-profit.
