What is Outside Lands?

Outside Lands is the shortened name used to describe the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival held every year at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, California. Outside Lands was hosted for the first time in 2008 with 60+ musicial artists and groups from around the world performing at the event. Besides music, Outside Lands also features food, wine, and art exhibits as well as a sports lounge, arcade, bar, and various food and art vendors. 

One of the main aspects of Outside Lands is its focus on being eco-friendly. EVent organizers use the festival to help educate the public about eco-friendly movements. Examples of being eco-friendly at the festival include solar powered stages, a water diversion program, a refillable water program, and a recycling program. 

Some of the most famous musical acts to perform at Outside Lands include Radiohead, The Black Keys, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Lupe Fiasco, Jack Johnson, Bon Iver, Pearl Jam, Thievery Corporation, Silversun Pickups, Dave Matthews Band, Zion I, Jason Mraz, Teneacious D, M.I.A., Matt and Kim, Kings of Leon, Phoenix, Phish, Muse, MGMT, The SHins, Deadmau5, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Metallica, Stevie Wonder, Neil Young & Crazy horse, Skrillex, Justice, Explosions in the Ski, and Passion Pit. 

60,000+ people a day attend the event that is always held in August. 

Outside Lands 2013 lineup includes Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails, Kaskade, Paul McCartney, Matt & Kim, Dillon Francis, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, Willie Nelson & Family, Jurassic 5, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Pretty Lights.
