The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) is a three-stage ongoing theatre event held from early spring through mid-autumn every year on a four acre campus near Lithia Park in Ashland, Oregon. The festival had its inaugural year in 1935 and has been running continuously since that time, except for a brief hiatus during World War II. The repertory theater features all 37 of Shakespeare's plays, and the entire works of Shakespeare have been presented hundreds of times. Since 1960, non-Shakespearean plays have also been performed at the OSF.
About 11 plays are selected for performance each year, with at least a third of them penned by the Bard. During a typical season, there are 750-800 performances. Educational programs as well as free open air shows are available during the festival. Elizabethan era music and dancers entertain the crowds, while bands from around the world play a mix of classical, ethnic, and modern music. More than 400,000 visitors attend per season.
