The Nobel Peace Prize is one of the 5 awards created by the Swedish inventory, manufacturer, and industrialist Alfred Nobel. After first being awarded in 1901, the prize has been awarded every year along with the other Nobel Prizes in chemistry, physics, physiology/medicine, and literature. The Peace Prize is awarded to individuals or organizations who have "done the most of the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses." Beginnin in 1990, the ceremony for this prize has been hosted in the Oslo City Hall on December 10th of every year, which is the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death. Prior to the Oslo City Hall, the ceremony has been hosted in the University of Oslo Faculty of Law's Atrium, the Norweigian Nobel Institute, and the Norwegian Parliament.
The recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize 2016 is selected by the Norwegien Nobel Committee, a five-member committee selectged by the Parliament of Norway. This facet of the award was decided upon based on Alfred Nobel's will.
