What is National Wear Red Day? | ![]() |
National Wear Red Day, on the first Friday of February, is a health awareness day dedicated to educating women about the risk of heart disease. On this day, women wear red clothing or accessories to raise awareness. Fundraisers, educational events, and social media campaigns (with hashtags like #GoRed) abound.
Cardiac events and stroke cause one out of three female fatalities in the U.S. each year. But heart attacks are not inevitable. Researchers estimate that 80% of cardiac events could be prevented with lifestyle choices and education. Women are encouraged to make healthy changes such as losing weight, eating a healthier diet, and increasing exercise. Having a cholesterol test and a general health checkup are also good ways to celebrate the day.
