The Marine Corps Marathon, commonly referred to as simply MCM, is a marathon held every year in Arlington, Virginia and Washington, DC. The course is certified by USA Track and Field. The purpose os MCM is to encourage physical fitness and healthy lifestyles, promote community goodwill, and demonstrate the oragnizational skills of the U.S. Marine Corps. Typically, the race is hosted on the final Sunday in the month of October, which occurs a couple of weeks prior to the Marine Corps Birthday on November 10th.
Since being founded in 1976, the Marine Corps Marathon has grown to become the 4th biggest marathon in the USA and the 9th largest around the globe. The road race attracts 30,000 participants above the age of 14 from every single state, Washginton DC, and more than 50 other countries. The standing race record is 2:14:01 by Jeff Scuffins (USA).
