What is India's May Day? | |
India’s May Day, commonly known as International Workers’ Day, is celebrated on May 1st in India as well as around the world in over eighty countries. The first Indian May Day celebration occurred on may 1st 1932 and was organized by the Labour Kisan Party of Hindustan in Madras (the unofficial name of the capital city Chennai of the Tamil Nadu state). This also marked the first time that the red flag was displayed in India.
In India, May Day is celebrated nationwide as a bank and public holiday.
