First ran in 1839, the Grand National is a major National Hunt Horse Race held every year at the Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool, England. The race is a handicap steeplechase race that runs for 7,141 meters on a turf track and features thirty jumps over two circuits. It also boasts the biggest purse for a race in Europe with a price fun of £1+ million.
As a result of the combination of the long distance and the fences, including Becher's Brook, The Chair, and the Canal Turn, the Grand National Horse Race is often times referred to as "the ultimate test of horse and rider."
