What is Final Four? | ![]() |
First used in 1975 in print media, the term Final Four refers to the last four men's or women's college basketball teams playing in the annual NCAA Tournament. The technical term for this stage in a tourney is "semifinal" but the term Final Four has become more popular when referencing the men's and women's basketball tournaments. The term is now a registered trademark of the NCAA.
The teams making it this far in the NCAA tourney are the winners of the East, South, Midwest, and West regions of the tournament bracket. These remaining four teams compete in two games with the winner's advancing to the NCAA Championship Game. The Final Four 2015 games occur on the final Saturday in the tournament, usually occuring in the first weekend of April, with the championship game being played the following Monday.
