|What is Cotton Bowl?|
The Cotton Bowl, officially known as the Cotton Bowl Classic, is a major college football bowl game that is played every year in Arlington, Texas, United States within AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. It is typically played on January 1st, New Year's Day. The annual game features teams from the SEC and Big 12 conferences. The teams are not known until after the teams for five BCA bowl games (National Championship, Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and Orange Bowl) and the Capital One Bowl have been selected. The bowl game organizers choose the teams participating in the Cototn Bowl and usually select the conference runner-up's if they are not already qualified with a BCS bowl game.
Even though the Cotton Bowl is not officially part of the BCS bowl games as well as the Peach Bowl as the games that would rotate the opportunity of hosting a semifinal game (roughly every 3 years) as part of the new BCS College Football Playoff system, which will begin in the 2014-2015 college football season. This opportunity will help the Cotton Bowl regain its status of being one of the premier national college football games.
After previously airing on the CBS and then Fox networks, ESPN has taken over the rights to the game beginning in 2015.
