What is Coffee Day? | ![]() |
Coffee Day is a yearly celebration of one of the world's most popular beverages. It is observed on September 29 in the United States, Japan, China, and a number of other countries. This informal holiday is promoted by coffee associations, growers, and roasters worldwide. It provides an opportunity for discussion about topics like free trade and draws attention to how and where coffee is grown.
Although coffee beans have been used in the Middle East and Africa for many centuries to make a form of sun tea, brewed coffee was only invented in the early 1400s. The first coffee house was established in Venice, Italy, in 1792. Today, there are about 24,000 coffee shops in the United States. Since 50% of Americans drink coffee in one form or another, it's no surprise that these shops bring in $12 billion in annual revenue. Coffee day is a chance to offer special deals and have yet another reason to enjoy a cup of Joe.
