What is Chocolate Chip Day? | ![]() |
Chocolate Chip Day, like Cake Day and Cookie Day, is designed to bring out the secret baker living inside us all. This informal food celebration isn't just about chocolate-it's about what you can mix chocolate into. From the classic flattened teardrop morsel to the bold, ragged chunk, chocolate chips are the ideal inclusion for everything from cookies, pies, and waffles to muffins and ice cream. They also feature in trail mix (where they somehow always get eaten first) and as a topping for frozen yogurt. While semi-sweet chocolate is the most popular flavor, chips are also available in dark and white chocolate flavors.
Did you know? The most famous recipe containing chocolate chips was created in 1937 by Ruth Wakefield, the owner of Toll House Inn (located in Massachusetts). Her chocolate chip cookie recipe was so enormously successful that Nestle made a deal with Wakefield. Her recipe would appear on the packaging of their semi-sweet chocolate, and she would be supplied with chocolate for life.
