The Cheltenham Literature Festival is a yearly event that draws a crowd of more than 100,000 visitors. Hundreds of the world's best-loved writers, poets, thinkers, politicians, and speakers arrive in Cheltenham to engage in lively debate and discussion for the benefit of attendees. Previous guests have included Stephen Hawking, Kate Adie, Tony Robinson, Salman Rushdie, and Ruth Rendell. Literary prize winners are invited to speak about their work, and the Nick Clarke Award for best broadcast interview is presented.
The festival features over 500 events including lectures, readings, and storytelling along with educational and interactive sessions for guests of all ages. Book groups and writing workshops delight readers and budding authors alike. The Cheltenham Literature Festival was begun in 1949 and has been running longer than any other literature festival. The town of Cheltenham is also known for many other events including those focused on Science and Music.
