Carnival, also spelled Carnaval or Carnivale, is an annual five-day festival of Brazil that is held between the Friday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Carnival ends on Fat Tuesday, commonly referred to as Mardi Gras around the world.
