The Cannes International Film Festival is a major annual film festival held over two weeks in May located in Cannes, France. The Cannes Film Festival features previews of films in all genres, that come from all around the globe. The festival was founded in 1946 and has since become one of the most prestigious and publicised festivals of any sort in the world.
The creation of the Cannes Film Festival was lead by Jean Zay, who was the Minister of Education and Fine Arts. It was their goal to create a major international event that would compete with the Venice Film Festival in France. The first edition was supposed to occur in 1939 but was as a result of the war was delayed to 1946. The first film festival was held on September 20th. The dates of the film festival moved from September to May beginning in 1952.
