What is BCS National Championship?

The Bowl Championship Series National Championship Game, typically referred to as the BCS National Championship, was the most prominent bowl game as part of the BCS system. It featured the two highest teams according to the BCS standings, which was determined by averaging the final week's results of the USA Today Coaches' Poll, the Harris Interactive Poll of media, former players/coaches, as well as the average of six participating computer rankings. 

Beginning with the 2014 college football season, a College Football Playoff system will replace the single BCS Championship. As part of the playoff system, the top four teams, selected by a committee of 13 experts, will compete in two semifinal games before the two winners face off in the College Football National Championship.
