The American Music Awards, also referred to as AMA, is an annual award show for American music that was created in 1973 by Dick Clark. The awards show was created by Dick Clark as a result of ABC's contract to broadcast the Grammy Awards Show expired. The America Music Awards Show awards American artists for their outstanding achievements in the record industry.

The nominations for the American Music Awards are based on numbers of sales, airplay, activity on socia media platforms, and video viewing. 

The major difference between the American Music Awards and the Grammy Awards is that the AMA's are voted on by a combination of public and music buyers, whereas the Grammy Awards are determined by members of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
