What is Advent?

Advent is an annual season found in the Christian religion which is marked by intense waiting and preparation for the coming of Jesus during Christmas. The term Advent comes for the Latin word adventus, meaning "coming." In Western churches, the Advent season begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas and ends on December 24th, the before Christmas. This period of Advent is filled with prayer, fasting, and penitence.
