What is Independence Day? | ![]() |
Independence Day, or Fourth of July, is observed on July 4th and is the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Fourth of July celebrations include patriotic displays, parties, and fireworks. In print, Independence Day is typically referred to as the "4th of July" or "July 4th." Perhaps the most unique feature of Independence Day is the fireworks shows, which take place in almost every major city across the United States. These firework shows are incredibly popular.
Independence Day has become on of the United States' most celebrated holidays, and for the younger generation has become an excuse for some of the largest parties of the year. Participants are likely to be seen sporting outrageous American flag clothing, and college students and post-grads alike are often seen wearing American flag swim trunks, bikinis, tank tops, pants, and other highly patriotic gear.
